City of Newburgh Police responded to several reports of "shots fired" on December 19th according to a statement released by police today.

31-year-old Newburgh resident Jawkaan Kenney has been charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Reckless Endangerment for his alleged actions.  In the statement police said they responded to the calls in the vicinity of South Lander Street and Carson Avenue at around 1:20 pm for the complaints of gunfire.  The city's "Shot Spotter" system was also activated as a result of the shots.

Upon arrival to the area a citizen stated they saw a man in the backyards.  Police located the suspect in the yards between Overlook Place and Carson Avenue.  He was ordered to stop but fled on foot.  After a short chase, Kenney was detained and a semi-automatic pistol was found nearby.

After arrest, Kenney was held for arraignment scheduled for December 20th.
