A Saugerties man is accused of speeding while drunk without taillights.

On Tuesday just after 9 p.m., Saugerties police spotted a vehicle allegedly traveling 48 miles per hour in a 30 MPH zone. The car, which was heading west on Ulster Avenue in the Village of Saugerties, also had no taillights, authorities say.

During the traffic stop, police allege that the driver, 34-year-old Matthew L.Taylor was intoxicated. His blood alcohol level was later found to be .18, over two times the legal limit of intoxication, officials say.

Taylor was processed at the Saugerties Police Department charged with driving while intoxicated and aggravated driving while intoxicated, misdemeanors, and violations for inadequate taillights and speeding.

Cody was released to a sober third party. He is scheduled to appear in the Village of Saugerties Court to answer the charges on Nov. 28.
