Police from Ulster County have caught a man they say did not register himself as a sex offender.

According to the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, on Jan. 18 around 12:50AM deputies responded to 45-year-old Henry J Bennett’s residence on James Street in Port Ewen for an unrelated call for service. While at the Port Ewen home police discovered that Bennett was forbidden to be at the residence due to an order of protection. A further investigation revealed that Bennett did not register himself with the Sex Offender Registry in New York State.

Bennett was arrested and transported to the Esopus Substation. He was charged with a second offense sex offender registration violation, a felony. He was also charged with criminal contempt, a misdemeanor.

Bennett was arraigned in Town of Esopus Justice Court and remanded to Ulster County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 secured bond.
