On Tuesday, 39-year-old Patrick Hermanowski of Westbrookville was charged with two counts of attempted murder of a police officer and criminal possession of a weapon.
On Sunday around 2:50 p.m., New York State Police and Town of Deerpark Police Department responded to an Orange County 911 report of a domestic dispute at a residence on US-209 in Westbrookville. The report indicated a man was inside the home discharging a firearm, police say.
Responding patrols were advised that 39-year-old Patrick Hermanowski of Westbrookville was in possession of a firearm and fled into a wooded area and later entered an abandoned Air Stream trailer located on Jagger Lane in Sullivan County where he attempted to hide from law enforcement, officials say.
As two responding troopers approached the trailer, Hermanowski allegedly fired his weapon at them from inside the trailer. Both troopers returned gunfire, hitting Hermanowski.
Additional State Police provided immediate aid and Hermanowski was transported by ambulance to the hospital with what police describe as non-life-threatening injuries.
Hermanowski was released from a local hospital and Tuesday and remanded to Sullivan County Jail.
