Alert: Residents On Edge As Purple Warnings Appear Across New York
That’s like the entire population of Washington, D.C. or Seattle disappearing overnight.
About 2.1 million New York City residents, or 25 percent of New York City's population, say they are "seriously considering" moving.
Where Would New York City Residents Move To?
Where do they want to move to? The Carolinas, Florida, and Tennessee top the list of escape destinations, thanks to lower taxes and more affordable living.
Men were more likely to say they’d go than women, 12% to 7%.
Voters ages 50 to 64 are leading the potential exodus.
Staten Island stands out, with 21% saying they’d definitely leave and more than half weighing it seriously.
Whether that many people actually move remains to be seen, but there’s no question that Mamdani’s win has some New Yorkers thinking hard about their next address.
