Jeopardy! Causes Controversy in Hudson Valley Over Cuomo Bridge

"Jeopardy!" made the local area go crazy this week after a question brought up the controversy surrounding the new Tappan Zee Bridge's name.

On Monday, the popular quiz show featured a category on bridges called, "The Bridge on the River, Why?" One answer was about the bridge that connects Westchester and Rockland counties.

The clue was:

The answer, "Mario Cuomo."

The name of the bridge has been a controversial topic in the Hudson Valley. In 2017, Gov. Andrew Cuomo renamed the bridge in honor of his late father and former New York Governor.

Many continue to call the new bridge the Tappan Zee while over 114,000 people signed a Change.org petition to return the bridge to its old name.

In January 2018, Putnam County Assemblyman Kevin Byrne and Orange County Assemblyman Karl Brabenec introduced legislation to return the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge to its old name, the Governor Malcolm Wilson Tappan Zee Bridge.

While a Hudson Valley teen is also trying to put the "Tappan Zee" name back on the Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge.
