As I always say when I start out talking about one of these markets, I am not a pot smoker but I know many who partake. I always say it because I want you the reader to realize that I am telling cannabis tidbits from the angle of a nonsmoker.

My relationship with Cannabis dates back to high school, pretty much everyone's does but early on I knew it was not for me. I am more of a distilled spirits kind of girl so I try to look at this from the side of "What if I couldn't buy my small batch of Hudson Valley distilled vodka"?

Village of New Paltz Welcomes Legacy Dispensary for Cannabis Sales

All that being said I am glad to be able to share with those who may not have heard the Village of New Paltz has opened a door for the New York State cannabis-licensed Legacy Dispensary to return to New Paltz on a temporary basis.

Mayor Tim Rogers made the announcement earlier this week on his political Facebook page that Legacy Dispensary would be bringing its kiosks back to 25 Plattekill  Avenue in New Paltz. This is the old firehouse just off Main Street in the Village. He stressed that the need is so people can access cannabis products that are regulated and tested.

Up until December of last year, a local growers cannabis market had been able to set up in the same location but unfortunately, the policy that allowed that expired. That created a gap between those events and New Paltz having an actual dispensary.

So Legacy Dispensary is going to be set up at the old Firehouse now through March 31st, 2024, or until the first permanent cannabis dispensary can open within the Village of New Paltz, according to Rogers. He has commented on the Facebook announcement that this is a bridge between what they were doing and a permanent business opening up.

Possible Locations For Cannabis Dispensary in New Paltz, New York

As you may have heard there have been numerous rumors as to where a dispensary might go. There was talk about the former Stewart's Shop location on Route 32 in the village which is now rumored to become a gun shop. Two other buildings near there were supposed to open as well.

The latest building said to be the "New Pot Shop" is the old Groovy Blueberry building at the end of town on your way out to Mohonk and Minnewaska. Only time will tell if any of them are going to be the site of New Paltz's first cannabis shop.
