Fireworks are finally making their return to New Paltz this Fourth of July, and it's something many local residents have been waiting years to see.

For the first time since 2018, a large public fireworks display will light up the sky over New Paltz as Local at Heart hosts its "Sparkle and Shine, Bringing Local to Light" celebration at the Ulster County Fairgrounds on Saturday, July 4, 2026.

The family-friendly event will run at the fairgrounds on Libertyville Road from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and promises much more than just fireworks. Organizers are planning an evening packed with live music, a car show, food vendors, activities for kids and adults, and a grand fireworks display at dusk provided by the world-famous Santore Family.

If you've missed watching fireworks in New Paltz over the last several years, this will be your chance to bring a lawn chair, gather with friends and family, and celebrate America's 250th birthday close to home.

Even better, the event supports a great cause.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors

Local at Heart is a fundraising organization that helps support food pantries and other nonprofit organizations serving New Paltz and surrounding communities. Organizers say this year's Fourth of July celebration is being held as a fundraiser to help local food pantries continue assisting families in need.

Admission is just $5, and children under 10 are admitted free.

Gates will open at 5 p.m., with fireworks scheduled for dusk. The fun doesn't end when the fireworks do, either. Live music will continue after the fireworks display, giving attendees a chance to keep the celebration going.

Organizers are encouraging residents from across Ulster County and beyond to come out, celebrate the holiday, support local food pantries, and help bring a beloved New Paltz tradition back to life.

After nearly eight years without a community fireworks display, New Paltz is ready to sparkle and shine once again.
