High-Speed Chase Starts on the New York State Thruway

A teenager is facing multiple charges after leading the New York State Police on two separate high-speed pursuits that topped speeds of 130 mph across parts of the Hudson Valley, NY.

The New York State Police (NYSP) have announced the arrest of an 18-year-old from the Bronx, NY, after he led police on two separate high-speed chases that spanned parts of Greene and Ulster County, NY.

High-Speed Chase Starts on the New York State Thruway

According to the NYSP, it all started on Saturday, September 27th, 2025, at approximately 9:03 p.m., when a trooper assigned to the State Police in Kingston attempted to stop a 2010 Nissan traveling northbound on the New York State Thruway (Interstate 87) near New Paltz, NY, for traffic violations.

As troopers initiated a traffic stop, the driver failed to pull over and proceeded to speed away, leading troopers on a high-speed pursuit that lasted approximately 12 minutes, reaching speeds of up to 130 MPH before the pursuit was terminated, and the suspect vehicle fled the area.

Second High Speed Pursuit Begins in Catskill, NY

A short time later, the NYSP located the suspect vehicle again in the town of Catskill and attempted to stop the car for a second time. The driver again failed to comply, initiating a second pursuit. During this pursuit, troopers successfully used a tire deflation device to try to get the vehicle to stop, leading it to swerve and strike a marked State Police vehicle before continuing southbound.

As the pursuit continued, the trooper's vehicle made contact with the suspect vehicle, causing it to lose control and hit the guide rails on both sides of the road. Troopers proceeded to use a precision immobilization technique (PIT) to bring the vehicle to a final stop. In total, the second pursuit lasted approximately 15 minutes, covered a distance of 27 miles, and reached speeds of up to 122 MPH.

Teenage Driver Arrested Following High Speed Pursuits

The driver, identified as an 18-year-old male from the Bronx, and the passenger, also an 18-year-old male from the Bronx, were taken into custody without further incident. The driver was arrested and charged with assault on a police officer/firefighter/EMT, two counts of criminal mischief, both felonies. He was also charged with two counts of reckless endangerment, two counts of unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, both misdemeanors, as well as numerous vehicle and traffic violations.

The defendant was arraigned, sent to the Greene County Jail, and is due back in court at a later date.
