UCSPCA Director Gina Carbonai Honored

As the only Humane Law Enforcement agency in the county, the Ulster County SPCA has a pretty big responsibility when it comes to the animals that call Ulster County home. The force behind the UCSPCA, Gina Carbonari, the Executive Director, is a champion for animal rights and advocacy for those [animals] who don't have their own voice.

Carbonari was recently recognized as the recipient of the Special Recognition Award by the Ulster County Police Chief's Association during their Annual Police Awards Dinner.

During Gina’s tenure, she has fostered a powerful, renewed collaboration with local law enforcement—notably building strong working relationships with the Ulster County Sheriff's Office and the District Attorney's Office to investigate and prosecute animal cruelty cases. Because of this leadership, joint training opportunities between our agencies have grown, greatly benefiting our entire community.

The announcement went on to honor Carbonari's dedication, ability to identify signs of animal neglect and abuse, around the clock availability and response, especially in emergnecy situations, and willingness to ' assist officers at the station or in the field—helping them navigate complex Agriculture and Markets laws.'

A Well-Deserved Honor For Animal Rights & Advocacy

Following the announcement, community members and animal lovers alike took to social media to share in the celebration of UCSPCA Director Gina Carbonari's recognition, some citing her as a 'guardian angel,' others talking about how she is 'full of compassion and love,' and endless comments noting how well deserved the honor is.

Personally, over the years Carbonari has been so receptive and responsive to our requests for comment or additional information for Ulster County related animal stories, and was integral in providing our audience with crucial information about animal surrenders a few summers back.

Recently, Carbonari gained a great deal of attention (and media well beyond the Hudson Valley) following a simple ask for donations to help stock the shelter shelves...

Congratulations again to one of the Hudson Valley's most prominent advocates for animals, Gina Carbonari, and for all the work that she does for the animals, and animal lovers, of Ulster County and beyond.
