Hudson Valley Woman Arrested After Baby Drowns in Bath
A 10-month old child drowned while taking a bath on Saturday and now her mother has been arrested by police.
New York State Police say 25-year-old Kayla M. Pagan of Marlboro has been arrested for criminally negligent homicide. According to police, Pagan was at home with her 10-month-old daughter when they responded to the emergency around 7:30 Saturday night.
Police say Pagan was giving her infant daughter a bath, but the left the bathroom for what they characterize as an "unreasonable amount of time." The baby was left unsupervised in the bathtub while it continued to fill with water. This, according to police, is what caused the baby do drown.
The report also says that the baby's father returned home from work and found his daughter still in the bathtub. He attempted CPR before help arrived. Once on the scene, emergency personnel transported the baby via Mobil Life to St. Luke's Hosptial in Newburgh where she was pronounced dead.
Pagan was arrested by State Police and charged with one count of criminally negligent homicide. a class E felony.
Pagan was arraigned in Town of Marlborough Court and sent to Ulster County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash, $200,000 bond. The suspect is scheduled to appear in Town of Marlborough Court on Tuesday afternoon.
