Almost two years after a 21-year-old Hudson Valley man was fatally shot in the head, a man has been charged with his murder.

On June 30, 2015, 21-year-old Shameik Floyd of City of Poughkeepsie was found lying on Mansion Street with a single gunshot wound to the head. He died a short time later.

On Friday, following a nearly two year investigation by the City of Poughkeepsie Police Detective Bureau, the Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office and the New York State Department of Corrections Office of Special Investigations Criminal Intelligence Division, 23-year-old Trent Yant of Poughkeepsie was charged with second-degree murder, a felony. Police didn’t say how their investigation linked Yant to the murder.

Yant was additionally charged with two-counts criminal possession of a weapon, two-counts of robbery, conspiracy and tampering with physical evidence, all felonies.

Yant was remanded back into the Custody of the New York State Department of Corrections. The investigation into the murder is continuing, police say. Anyone with information on this murder is asked to call the City of Poughkeepsie Police at 845-451-7577.
