Counterfeit Merchandise Sweep Leads to Seizure of 277 Fake Items
Investigators in the Hudson Valley conducting a counterfeit merchandise sweep found 277 pieces of fake merchandise worth over $50,000.
Rockland County Sheriff’s Office, Orangetown, Haverstraw and Ramapo Police Departments, along with ICE-Homeland Security Investigations, the Rockland County Intelligence Center and Global Security and Investigative Services all participated in the county-wide sweep. Officials say 3 Rockland locations were raided over allegations they were selling counterfeit merchandise.
“On the surface may this look like doing the leg work for large well established companies. The truth is, reports indicate there is a direct link between the sale of counterfeit items and potential funding for terrorist organizations,” Sheriff Louis Falco said. “While we have not found any direct link in these cases, it is estimated that 1.6 billion dollars’ worth of counterfeit merchandise enters this country every year. This will be an ongoing initiative to assist in keep our communities safe.”
