Child Stabbed, Teen Accused of Waving Knife at Police in Newburgh
An 11-year-old girl was stabbed in the Hudson Valley. Another girl is accused of swinging a knife at police. On Saturday around 8:45 p.m., City of Newburgh Police were called to the area of the Kenny Court Apartment Complex for a reported stabbing.
As officers arrived on scene they found a large crowd of children and an 11-year-old girl with a stab wound to her left arm. She was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital for treatment of her injuries.
Another girl, 13, charged at officers while swinging a large kitchen knife, police say.
According to City of Newburgh police, officers, at gunpoint, gave the girl verbal commands to drop the knife. The girl continued to swing the knife at officers and was ultimately tackled from behind and taken into custody.
She was charged with menacing and released to a parent.
Another girl, 14, is was charged with assault in connection with the 11-year-old being stabbed. She was released to a parent pending a family court arraignment.
Another young girl is being sought in connection with the stabbing, police say.
