New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation from the Wappinger have arrested a Wappingers bus monitor after reports that he struck a 7-year-old student.

80-year-old Brett A. Swain, of Poughkeepsie, has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor. While reviewing school bus video surveillance footage school officials from the Wappingers Central School District saw what appeared to be a bus monitor striking a student.

The incident happened on January 21st and was immediately reported to state police on January 22nd. After a police investigation, Swain was arrested and charged.

A spokesperson from New York State Police Troop K, which covers Columbia, Dutchess, Putnam and Westchester Counties, told Hudson Valley Post that the school district is not releasing the name of school. The child's age, 7, was confirmed.

Swain is scheduled to appear before the Town of Wappinger Court on January 26, 2016, at 5:30 p.m.
