Attempted Sex Act With a Child Leads to Prison Sentence
Twenty-year-old James Beermunder, formerly of VanDuesen Street in Kingston, entered a guilty plea to attempted criminal sexual act in the second degree in Ulster County Court on December 13.
According to Ulster County District Attorney Holley Carnright, Beermunder admitted in court that between February 1 and April 30, 2017, when he was eighteen, he attempted to engage in oral sexual conduct with a 13-year-old child.
At the time of his plea Beermunder was sentenced to four years in state prison followed by ten years of post-release supervision. The convict will be required to register under the New York State Sexual Offender Registry for a minimum of twenty years. Beermunder was also served with an order of protection requiring him to stay away and have no contact with the victim. The order expires December 13, 2030.
