4 Newburgh Teens Arrested Following Armed Robbery, 1 Shot Fired, Police Say
Four Newburgh teens are accused of firing one shot from a rifle and robbing a taxi driver at gunpoint.
On Thursday just after 6:15 a.m., while executing a search warrant on Benkard Avenue in the City of Newburgh, City of Newburgh Police heard a single shot fired nearby.
Authorities then spotted a taxi fleeing the area. The taxi driver was found and interviewed. The driver said he was robbed at gunpoint on Renwick Street by four teenagers. One of the teens fired a single shot from a rifle, police say.
The driver was not injured and his taxi was not hit. He told police that he was called to the area to pick up a fare when multiple masked men approached his taxi. A gun was pointed at the driver, one person demanded money, while others stole the taxi radio, cash and a cell phone.
Authorities searched the area. A police K-9 led officers to a home on Liberty Street. The stolen items and a black rifle were found inside the home, officials say.
Two 16-year-olds and two 15-year-olds, all from the City of Newburgh, were all charged with one count of first degree robbery.
