One woman was shot in the hand and another suffered a lip injury while driving away from a gathering in Poughkeepsie in the early morning hours of Saturday, June 20, police said.

Poughkeepsie dispatch received a call reporting two gunshot victims at the Vassar Brothers Medical Center at 3:26 a.m., police said.

The victims, both 26-year-old women, told authorities they were leaving a gathering on Cottage Street when they heard what sounded like firecrackers. Soon thereafter, the driver realized she had suffered a gunshot wound to her right hand, and the passenger suffered a lip injury, police said.

Neither victim was able to give any information on who fired the shots or why it occurred, and the pair drove themselves to the hospital, police said. The incident was one of two shootings in Poughkeepsie over the weekend. On Saturday, a 16-year-old was shot and killed and another teen stabbed near Mill Street.

Authorities are asking that anyone with information on this shooting is asked to call the City of Poughkeepsie Police at 845-451-7577.
