Police found a dead man inside a Hudson Valley home after receiving reports that someone was being tied up and beaten. Two local men were later charged with murder.
On Monday around 1:10 a.m, City of Poughkeepsie 911 received a call reporting that a person at a home on Marshall Street was being tied up and beaten.
Responding officers found a dead man in a first floor apartment, police say. On Wednesday, police identified the man 28-year-old Frederick "Joey" Veitch III, of Shandaken.
The cause of his death is still being investigated by the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Police have yet to identify the deceased man.
One person leaving the home was stopped and detained. Another person fled prior to police arrival. The person who was detained, 49-year-old David Perry of Poughkeepsie, told police that he and another man attempted to rob an unknown man and during the struggle the man died, police say.
The person who fled was later identified as 19-year-old Daniel Barletta of Poughkeepsie. According to police, Barletta lives inside the first floor apartment where the dead man was found.
Bareltta was found by police in New York City. He was taken into custody by members of the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department and N.Y.P.D.
Perry and Bareltta were both charged with murder and are being held pending arraignment.
