Gelsomino Lombardo, 59, of Hopewell Junction died in the crash, police say. Peter V. Cardone,72, and his wife, 69-year-old Josephine C. Cardone, both of Queens, were both injured.
Around 1:10 p.m. on Tuesday, Lombardo was heading north on Route 22 in Souteast in a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse. His car crossed over into the southbound lane of the road and ran head-on into a 2015 Mercedes Benz SUV driven by Mrs. Cardone, police say.
Lombardo was found unresponsive. After he was removed from his car, CPR was performed, followed by an automated external defibrillator. A paramedic arrived on the scene and joined in the efforts to revive Lombardo.
Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mr. and Mrs. Cardone were taken to Danbury Hospital by the Brewster Ambulance Corps and the Patterson Ambulance Corps. Josephine suffered injuries to her ankle, back and neck. Peter hurt his back and neck. Their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, police say.
The crash caused the closure of parts of Route 22 for four hours. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
