An upper Hudson Valley man lost his life when his car hit a pole, drove down a hill and flipped over twice.

On Sunday around 6:20 p.m., authorities responded to a one-car accident on Route 9J, just north of Day Road in the Town of Stockport.

Deputies from the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office found 45-year-old Robert D. Jennings of Stuyvesant outside of his truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jennings’ 2006 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck drove off the road for an unknown reason and hit a utility pole, police say. The vehicle continued down a slight embankment and flipped over twice. Jennings was ejected from his car.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday morning.

Valatie Rescue Squad, Stockport Fire Department, Stuyvesant Fire Department and New York State Police assisted at the scene.
