
Update: Stewart’s Employee Helped Man Rob Local Store, Police say
Days after police arrested a man for robbing a local Stewart’s an employee at the store is now accused of coordinating the robbery.
On Monday, State Police from Livingston went to investigate an armed robbery that occurred at Stewart's, located on State Route 9 in Kinderhook.
An investigation revealed that around 11:15 p.m. 23-year-old Phillip R. Schmidt of Stockport entered Stewarts through the rear door, showed a knife and demanded money, police say.
Schmidt is accused of receiving an undetermined amount of cash and fleeing the scene.
As police continued to investigate, they allege that 20-year-old Amanda Craig of Valatie, who was working at the Stewart’s during the robbery, helped Schmidt plan the robbery.
Craig was charged with first-degree robbery, a felony.
Craig was arraigned in the Town of Stuyvesant Court and remanded to the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.
Schimdit was previously charged with robbery and criminal possession of a weapon, felonies. He was remanded to the Columbia County Jail without bail.
