A Hudson Valley man with a long history of criminal charges was arrested for allegedly calling his ex-wife and threatening her and her children’s well-being.

Wednesday morning, Suffern Police arrested 42-year-old Israel Rivera, from Spring Valley on charges of 1st-degree criminal contempt and aggravated harassment. Police say he violated a stay away order of protection issued by Rockland County Supreme Court on behalf of his ex-wife.

According to Suffern Police, Rivera called his ex-wife and threatened her and her children's well-being by stating he was going to assault her and take her kids away with him later that morning.

With the help of Ramapo Police, Rivera was arrested before he got to his ex-wife’s home. Ramapo Police also had criminal charges against him, officials say.

While in custody,police from Suffern learned that Rivera had an extensive criminal record with 4 prior felony convictions and several misdemeanor convictions. The convictions include robbery, burglary and criminal contempt.

Due to his past convictions he was remanded to the Rockland County Jail without bail.
