A Rockland County man was arrested after he allegedly attacked his sleeping ex-girlfriend and threatened to kill her as her baby slept near.

Suffern Police responded to a 911 call of a report of an assault taking place on Oakdale Manor in Suffern. The woman claims she was sleeping in her apartment with her toddler when her ex-boyfriend, 25-year-old Darwin Vasquez, of Spring Valley, began to punch and slap her in the face. Vasquez does not live at the residence. Police determined he entered the apartment through an unlocked bathroom window.

According to Suffern Police, the unnamed woman attempted to call 911 but the suspect grabbed the phone out of her hand, threatened to kill her, and swung a bottle at her. She managed to escape into another room and successfully called 911.

Vasquez was found and arrested in the apartment lobby. Police say while searching the suspect they found him to be in possession of a fake social security card as well as the victim’s house keys and identification.

Vasquez was charged with 2nd-degree burglary, 3rd-degree assault, 1st-degree possession of a forged instrument, 2nd-degree unlawful imprisonment, 2nd-degree menacing, endangering the welfare of a child, 4th-degree criminal mischief, 5th degree criminal possession of stolen property, and harassment.

Vasquez was arraigned and sent to Rockland County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail.
