Police: 2 Men Arrested Exited Train In Hudson Valley With Large Amount of Heroin
Two men are accused of getting off a train in the Hudson Valley with nearly 300 bags of heroin.
On Tuesday, Port Jervis City Police Detectives, in conjunction with members of the Town of Deerpark Police Department, working as part of the Joint Crime Suppression Task Force, conducted a surveillance operation in the vicinity of the Metro North Lot on Pike Street.
Two men who exited the train with heroin were taken into custody, police say.
Mitchell Starr, 33, of Port Jervis and 30-year-old Vito Galati of Milford, PA, were charged with possessing heroin with the intent to sell, a felony. According to detectives, a total of 269 bags of heroin were seized along with an undisclosed amount of money.
Galati is also facing a felony charge for allegedly possessing one-eighth of an ounce or more of a narcotic drug. Galati was also charged as a fugitive from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania where he is wanted on unspecified offense, officials say.
Starr was additionally arrested for seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor.
Both were arraigned in Port Jervis City Court and remanded to the Custody of the Orange County Sheriff's Office on $25,000 cash bail.
