Kaaterskill Falls has claimed another life, as a man from Orange County fell to his death on Saturday afternoon.

A 30-year-old Newburgh man fell to his death Saturday, according to New York State Police at Catskill. Anthony Miele was hiking with a friend near the top portion of the 260-foot falls. Miele slipped on some ice and fell about 120 feet.

Miele was attempting to walk across a dangerous area covered with ice and moss at the time he fell. Miele was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a press release.

At this time, it is unknown if Miele went around the safety fencing near the top of the falls, that was installed by the DEC in 2014 and 2015.

State Police do not suspect any foul play and an autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims family and loved ones during this difficult time.

This is not the first accident of this nature to occur at Kaaterskilll Falls. This past July, a 17-year-old New Jersey teen also lost his life after slipping and falling to his death.
