A Newburgh man on parole crashed his car while he trying to flee police in Wallkill, authorities said.

On Wednesday Deputies from the Orange County Sheriff’s office attempted to stop 23-year-old Dylan Kratzert of Newburgh for a traffic violation on Route 211 in the Town of Wallkill.

Police allege that Kratzert sped away in his vehicle in an attempt to elude police. He lost control of his car and struck a guardrail on Stone Ridge Road. Police say he then fled on foot into a wooded area before being caught and arrested.

Kratzert was charged with reckless driving, unlawfully fleeing the police, obstruction of governmental administration, and resisting arrest. He was additionally charged with 13 traffic violations.

Kratzert was arraigned in Wallkill Town Court and remanded to the Orange County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail.
