New York State Rangers Save 4 People, Dog From Icy River
Another week of flooding in Upstate New York led to rangers rescuing four people and a dog.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation saved more people from a freezing, icy, river.
On Thursday, Feb. 24 at 10:55 a.m., DEC Forest Rangers Scott and Lomnitzer returned to River Road in the town of Hope to help evacuate residents stranded due to flooding.
Similar to last week, an ice jam blocking the Sacandaga River broke, causing an increase in water downstream and flooding multiple homes.
Last Thursday, DEC rangers had to rescue four people and a dog.
Using a boat, Rangers Scott and Lomnitzer rescued four individuals and one dog, according to the DEC. The DEC didn't release more information about the group or dog, but no injuries were reported.
In addition, the Hamilton County Department of Emergency Services conducted welfare checks in the area.
Last week DEC officials helped with a vehicle that somehow got stuck in the Sacandaga River.
"Rangers also responded to an incident involving a passenger vehicle in the river," the DEC said in a press release.
By the time rangers arrived, a town employee had already helped remove the driver.
At 6:11 p.m., rangers assisted the tow company in removing the vehicle from the river. It remains unclear how the vehicle ended up in the river.
No injuries were reported.
