The New York State Police is asking for the public's assistance in locating a vehicle wanted in connection with the shooting of a New York State Trooper on Wednesday night.

New York State Trooper Shot

According to the New York State Police (NYSP), the shooting happened late Wednesday night October 30th during a traffic stop by a trooper. Police said that at approximately 11:45 p.m. a NYS Trooper pulled over a vehicle on the westbound side of the Southern State Parkway in the area of Exit 17, West Hempstead, Nassau County, NY for a possible vehicle/traffic violation when shots were fired.

Police said the unidentified trooper pulled over a black sedan, possibly a Dodge Charger with a temporary New Jersey license plate/tag numbered 997636T just before midnight when at some point during the traffic stop the suspect allegedly shot the trooper.

Shooting Suspect on Long Island, New York

Police said the suspect, who is believed to be a dark-skinned male, fled the scene in the black sedan, described above. Police also said that the vehicle is also believed to have custom matte gray dual exhaust tips.

Troopers Condition

A recent post on the NYSP Facebook page said that the Trooper is currently in stable condition at a local New York hospital and that the investigation is ongoing. They also asked anyone who might have been in the area of the shooting and may have witnessed anything to please contact them at (631)756-3300. They also asked drivers to keep an eye out for the vehicle described above and to report any sightings to either the NYSP or the local authorities.
