State Police arrested a Massachusetts man for making what proved to be a fake bomb threat in the upper Hudson Valley.

Police say 47-year-old Wayne A. Augusto, of Worcester, MA was arrested after he allegedly called and reported a bomb in a residence in the Town of Cairo. A police investigation revealed the bomb threat was not credible. More investigation showed that Augusto was also in violation of a duly served order of protection from the Town of Cairo.

Augusto was charged with 1st-degree criminal contempt, 2nd-degree false reporting an incident, both class E felonies.

Augusto was arraigned in Town of Cairo Court and remanded to the Greene County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 secured bond.

State Police was assisted by the Cairo Police Department, The Greene County Sheriff’s Office, and New York State ENCON.
