A Hudson Valley school district has issued a safety alert following suspicious activity near a bus stop.

Wappingers Central School District published a notice to parents and guardians regarding an incident that happened at a school bus stop on Friday, September 21. The notice says that at roughly 7:57 a.m. on Friday, two girls were walking to their bus stop when someone had asked them if they wanted a ride to school.

The incident happened on Route 9 near Wenliss Terrace. Two female students from Shaefe Road Elementary walked passed a grey Subaru Outback to the bus stop. A man in the car asked the girls if they needed a ride to school. When the girls arrived safely to school via bus, they reported the incident to the principal. The Town of Poughkeepsie police was then alerted.

The man in the car is described as having a beard and in his 40s.

The Wappingers Central School District also reminds parents to talk to their children about what to do during potentially dangerous situations.
