Dramatically Beautiful Grounds Will Close for Hunting Season

Like many of you, I am sure, I appreciate that we live in a place that so many love to visit. It means we are living in a space that others have to travel to to enjoy. Our luck is that it is in our backyard. I realize that can come with a bit of frustration at times, but that is a small price to pay to live in the Hudson Valley.

I recently had the opportunity to travel to Amenia, New York, for the Highlands Horse Show. It had been a while since I had seen that part of Dutchess County. I had forgotten how beautiful it was, especially in the Fall.

Shortly after I made the trip, my phone and social media started feeding me information from the area, as you might expect. That is when I saw for the first time a place I had heard horse friends speak about, but I had never had a chance to visit. It is a place called Wethersfield Estate & Garden, and it is stunning. I owe myself a trip to see it in person, but I will have to plan that for 2026.

The post I saw on Facebook shared that the grounds would be closed for a horse event. I can only imagine how amazing it would be to ride those grounds. But that event was only a few hours out of a weekend. The reason I won't be getting there anytime soon is that they also close the grounds for hunting season.

Please also note, for the safety of our visitors, the Wethersfield Trails will be closed for Hunting Season beginning Saturday, November 15, 2025. The hiking and cross-country skiing trails will reopen on January 2, 2026. The equestrian trails will reopen in mid-April 2026. (Wethersfield Estate & Garden via Facebook)
