I can remember about 10 or so years ago there were a few Hudson Valley businesspeople discussing how they would want to get into the Cannabis industry when it became legal to do so. Fast forward and here we almost are.

Over the last few years, the path has been paved for local farms and retail businesses to legally sell cannabis in New York. However, it is highly regulated. This has resulted in the actual process taking longer than some had anticipated.

Hudson Valley Cannabis Grower Markets May Shutdown

This past fall, Ulster County came up with a solution to help some of the farmers at least that had invested in growing cannabis locally in hopes of selling it to Hudson Valley Dispensaries. Unfortunately, time is running out for that plan too.

In a press release sent out this week by the Cannabis Growers Showcase (High Falls Canna NY), news was shared that the mayors of three Ulster County Towns have asked New York State to extend the Cannabis Growers Showcases to bridge the gap between now and when licensed cannabis dispensaries open.

The Mayor of New Paltz, along with Mayors from Kingston and Gardiner all reached out to New York State for permission to allow the current cannabis showcases to extend their business past the December 31st, 2023 deadline.

Back in August, I told you about the first New York State Cannabis Growers Market which they held outdoors at the old New Paltz Fire House. That market and two indoor markets will lose their ability to sell cannabis if something isn't done to fix it by December 31, 2023.

There is no word as of yet that has been released saying whether or not they will get the extension. In the meantime, you can head to one of these markets until December 31, 2023.

The Growers Showcases have been met with enthusiastic support by our local community and public officials who have been very supportive of these initiatives. The popularity of these showcases is evident by the incredible turnout of local resident from Ulster and surrounding Counties.
