A local Hudson Valley fire department is mourning the loss of one of their younger members.

Young Brewster, NY Firefighter Passes Away

The Brewster Fire Department shared the news in a statement on Facebook of the untimely death of firefighter William "Billy" May on March 30th, 2024.

In the statement, the fire department goes on to write that Billy, Badge #779, joined the Brewster Fire Department on February 13th, 2020 at the young age of 22. From there May "proudly served his community for over 4 years and quickly became a rising star who brought the best out of everyone he interacted with."

According to the post, Billy passed away late last week:

Billy passed on March 29th, 2024, at the age of 26. He is survived by his father William, his mother Johanna, his brother Christopher, and his sister Jennifer.

There are no details on May's cause of death, but details about his services are still being organized and information will be passed out to the department members as soon as they are made available.

City of Newburgh Firefighters Save Dog on Frozen Hudson River
