Hudson Valley Teen Fighting For Life From Flu
A Hudson Valley teen who is a volunteer firefighter is fighting for his life after being hospitalized with a severe case of the flu.
Willy McCue, 19, is in the intensive care unit at Montefiore Hospital due to secondary complications from the flu.
McCue, a Clarkstown North High School graduate, is in the Cardiovascular Surgical Intensive Care Unit at the hospital, a multispecialty medical care center for critically ill patients.
“Willy is critically ill. Willy is fighting to overcome the devastating impacts the flu can have on a person who has no underlying medical conditions,” Joseph Trongone wrote on a GoFundMe page he set up for McCue and his family.
McCue is a volunteer member of the New City Fire Department.
“Will- 19 years old - has clearly demonstrated the qualities that we look for in a new member- an active, energetic person with a willingness to learn and contribute to the fire company,” the fire department wrote on Facebook.
A GoFundMe page was set up to help McCue’s family with the extensive medical costs. As of this writing, nearly $41,000 has been donated.
