A Hudson Valley family is in mourning and could use your help after a mother of seven was killed in a crash on I-84.

For an unknown reason, Heather Morgan's Dodge Journey left the roadway, entered the center median and struck a tree on Friday around 6:40 a.m. on I-84 west in the town on Montgomery, police say.

Morgan, 36, from Beacon and her passenger, 37-year-old Derik Jones from Beacon, both died as a result of their injuries.

Morgan, who graduated from Beacon High School, worked for many years in the food service industry and leaves behind her six biological children and her stepson, according to her obituary.

A GoFundMe was started for Morgan's family.

"The family will have a long road of healing from this loss and as a community, I ask that you please consider a donation that may help cover the expenses for services, in addition to trying to maintain as normal a life as possible for the kids. Heather would go to any length to ensure her kids were well taken care of and active in school/extracurricular activities and would have gone above and beyond to help others as well. This is the time to do our part as a community and get behind the kids and the family during this extremely difficult time," the GoFundMe states.

As of this writing, nearly $15,000 has been raised.
