An investigation has determined that early morning fire at the old Hudson River Psychiatric Center was intentionally set.

At approximately 3:44 a.m. firefighters were dispatched for a report of smoke in the area of the old Hudson River Psychiatric Center.

Upon further investigation, a fire was found in the wing of the old main administration building. Additional resources were immediately called to the scene.

After a majority of the fire was knocked down, the fire had spread to the main buidling requiring additional ladders and fire apparatus to the scene to control the fire.

An investigation has determined that the fire was intentionally set. Anyone with information regarding the fire are encouraged to call the Town of Poughkeepsie Police at (845) 485-3666.

The developers of the property have offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the individual(s) who started the fire.

Members of eight different fire districts in area assisted on the scene.
