Amazon Closing 4 New York Sites Leaving Many Out of Work
A number of New Yorkers are searching for work after Amazon suddenly decided to close four locations.
A recent WARN notice states Amazon is closing four stores in New York. Among the closers are Amazon 4-Star, book, and pop-up stores, according to the New York State Department of Labor Office of Dislocated Workers Program.
Over 50 workers will be out of a job just after the Fourth of July, according to the WARN notice.
The sites of the four stores and the number of people impacted are:
7 W 34th Street, New York City, NY 10001

423 W 14th Street, New York City, NY 10014 (6 employees affected)

A plant closing is a reason 51 will be out of work.
"Due to the permanent closing of four sites in New York City effective 4/9/2022, 51 employees will be separated on 7/7/2022," the WARN notice states.
A reason for the plant closing is listed as "economic."
The WARN notice classifies the Amazon business as "an American multinational technology company which focuses on e-commerce, cloud computing, digital streaming, and artificial intelligence."
The employees are not represented by a union, according to the WARN notice.
Workers at another Amazon location in New York recently helped make a "historic" change.
Amazon warehouse workers from a Staten Island facility voted to form the first union in Amazon's 27-year history.
