Christmas and New Year's were likely ruined for 50,000 New York drivers.
On Monday, New York State Police released the results of the “Drive High Get a DUI” national campaign
New York State Police Issues Nearly 50,000 Tickets
The “Drive High Get a DUI” campaign targeted impaired and reckless drivers between Wednesday, December 10, 2025, and Thursday, January 1, 2026.

Officials say New York State Police issued a total of 47,711 tickets over the Christmas and New Year’s holiday.
Nearly 8,000 tickets were issued on the New York State Thruway.
"Throughout the enforcement, State Police utilized sobriety checkpoints, additional DWI patrols, and ticketed distracted drivers who used handheld electronic devices. Troopers also used both marked State Police vehicles and Concealed Identity Traffic Enforcement (CITE) vehicles as part of this crackdown in order to more easily identify motorists who were violating the law. These vehicles blend in with everyday traffic but are unmistakable as emergency vehicles once the emergency lighting is activated," New York State Police stated in a press release.
Hudson Valley Leads State In Tickets
Once again, the Hudson Valley led the state in total tickets issued.
New York State Police issued 5,333 tickets in the Eastern part of the Hudson Valley and 4,798 in the Western part of the Hudson Valley.
Nearly 800 Arrested For DWI, 13 Fatal Accidents
During that time span, New York State Police arrested 767 people for DWI and investigated 6,244 accidents, including 13 fatal accidents. Information about the fatal accidents wasn't released.

Police also targeted speeding and aggressive drivers across the state.
Below is the total number of tickets that were issued:
- Speeding: 14,460
- Distracted Driving: 1,810
- Seatbelt violations: 1,600
- Move Over Law: 828
During last year’s crackdown, the State Police issued 45,770 total tickets and arrested 755 people for DWI.
