A toddler left alone in a Town of Ulster home was nearly struck by a car when she wandered onto Lucas Avenue Saturday afternoon.

The Ulster County Sheriff's Office say John F. Yonnetti III, 25, of Kingston and Andrew Calia, 30, of Pine Bush left Yonnetti's young daughter unsupervised in a Spring Lake Road residence while the pair went to a convenience store. The toddler left the home and walked into the middle of Lucas Avenue

The sheriff's office received several 911 calls about the toddler seen walking in the road. Deputies said the child was nearly struck by a car before a concerned citizen rescued her and brought her to a nearby business.

Yonetti and Calia were charged with misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child and brought to the Ulster County Law Enforcement Center. The pair were released with appearance tickets to appear in the Town of Ulster Justice Court.

The child was left in a family member's care.
