An Ulster County man who brutally beat his ex-girlfriend, causing massive injuries, will serve jail time.

On Oct. 23, 2015, the victim’s daughter returned to her Town of Newburgh home to find a large amount of blood on the front door, blood spattered in the home, and her mother missing.

The girl called police. As police investigated they developed the victim’s ex-boyfriend, 47-year-old Christopher Redenti of Highland, as a suspect.

As Town of Newburgh Police encouraged him to surrender over the phone, Town of Lloyd Police drove to his home where they took him into custody.

At Redenti’s home, police found the victim who was desperately in the need for medical assistance.

The woman suffered injuries to her head, finger, and vertebra. She required around twenty-five staples to her head, multiple stitches to her finger, which was opened up down to the tendons, and a fractured vertebra.

Officials say Redeti assaulted the victim in her Town of Newburgh home with a blunt object, threw her over his shoulder, and drove her to his home while she was bleeding profusely.

In June, Redenti pleaded guilty to first-degree assault.

On Wednesday, in Orange County Court, Redenti was sentenced to 12 years in prison, to be followed by five years of post-release supervision.

“Violence between intimate partners, including former partners, is intolerable,” District Attorney David M. Hoovler stated. “The victim here was lucky, thanks to the quick thinking of her daughter and police, and the defendant has been punished for his conduct. I have made it a priority to combat intimate partner violence, through initiatives designed to hold offenders accountable for their violent actions. Going forward, we hope to implement new strategies to stop the victimization of people by their partners.”
