A 14-year-old is accused of faking a bomb threat at a Hudson Valley high school.

On Thursday morning, the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported bomb scare at the Onteora Junior/Senior High School. A note was found by a staff member that said a bomb was going to go off, police say.

The Onteora School District implemented an evacuation plan of the middle school and high school while the investigation was being conducted. All students and staff were safely evacuated.

The building was searched by several police agencies with the assistance of the New York City DEP Police Explosive Detection Canine teams. Authorities determined the school was never in danger. Students were able to reenter the school Thursday afternoon.

A police investigation led them to develop a student as the suspect. An unnamed 14-year-old Onteora school district student was charged with falsely reporting an incident, a felony. The student was released to parents and referred to Ulster County Family Court.

The Ulster County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the New York State Police, the New York City DEP Police, town police departments from Olive, Shandaken and Woodstock and the Olive Fire Department.
