A host of local first responders helped save a man who was threatening to jump off a Hudson Valley bridge.

On Sunday just before 4 p.m., police were told about a suicidal man who was threatening to jump off the Bear Mountain Bridge.

Sheriff Deputies Benjamin Levine, Anthony Tolve and Brian Neary responded to the area. According to the Putnam County Sheriff's office, upon arrival, Deputy Levine located the suicidal man on the north side of the bridge and noticed the man looking down over the railing of the bridge, towards the Hudson River, stating multiple times that he wanted to die.

Deputy Levine established a dialogue with the mand and after approximately 25-minutes of talking with the suicidal man, he agreed to step back from the railing of the bridge, police say.

The unnamed man was then taken into custody by Deputy Levine and New York State Trooper Ed Fleming, without incident, and was later transported by Peekskill Volunteer Ambulance Corp to Phelps Memorial Hospital for a mental health observation.

During the incident, Deputy Levine was assisted by Deputy Sheriff Anthony Tolve, Deputy Sheriff Brian Neary, Putnam County Sheriff’s Department Marine Unit, New York State Trooper Ed Fleming, New York State Trooper Investigator Andrew Palladino, Westchester County Police, New York State Park Police, Town of Highlands Police, Peekskill Volunteer Ambulance Corp, Continental Village Fire Department, and the New York State Bridge Authority.
