Slain NYPD Officer From Hudson Valley Mourned, Honored By Yankees
Thousands mourned the NYPD officer from the Hudson Valley who was killed in the line of duty.
A wake and funeral took place on Thursday and Friday in Brian Mulkeen's hometown of Monroe.
The 33-year-old was killed by friendly fire in the Bronx while police struggled with an alleged armed convicted felon in the Bronx.
“This is a tragic case of friendly fire, but make no mistake, we lost a life of a courageous public servant solely due to a violent criminal who put the lives of the police and all the people we serve in jeopardy,” NYPD Commissioner Jame O’Neill said.
A miles-long sea of cops traveled to Monroe for Mulkeen's funeral at Sacred Heart Church, the New York Post reports.
On Friday, before Game 1 of the American League Divison Series, the New York Yankees held a moment of silence for Mulkeen.
During what's described as an emotional eulogy, NYPD Commissioner Jame O’Neill promoted Mulkeen to Detective First Grade.
