On Sunday, Dec. 17, Dutchess County 911 received several calls reporting black smoke rising from behind the Poughkeepsie Plaza on South Road (Route 9) as well as calls reporting a fire at the Dutchess Golf Club, immediately north of the plaza.

Within four minutes of being dispatched to the reports, Arlington firefighters located and confirmed an active fire at a shelter/shed on the actual golf course. Due to the location of the fire, the engines were unable to reach the blaze.

According to Arlington Fire Chief Tory Gallante, off-road firefighting vehicles from the New Hambug and LaGrange Fire Districts arrived at the location to assist in reaching the fire.

The structure was completely destroyed. The cause of the fire is currently being investigated by the Arlington Fire District and the Town of Poughkeepsie.
