Red Hook Police Rescue Owl on 9G

Two Red Hook police officers ran into an unexpected visitor to town during a Saturday night patrol.

Officer James Simmons and Officer Travis Sterritt discovered an owl sitting in the middle of Route 9G near Bard College. Before wildlife could arrive, the owl flew back into the trees, but not before the Simmons and Sterritt could snap this photo.

The Red Hook Police Department is asking birdwatchers on its Facebook page what kind of owl this is. Any guesses?
