The Hudson Valley has lost a beloved restaurant owner.

Kenneth Hallett, the owner of Southside Restaurant and Cafe in Poughkeepsie, passed away on Wednesday. According to his family, Hallett died unexpectedly after a brief illness.

Southside Restaurant and Cafe has been serving up legendary chicken wings for decades. The casual spot in the Hudson Plaza near Price Chopper on Route 9 has been a local favorite for many who remember Hallett's fun sense of humor and passion for food.

Hallett's family is establishing a scholarship for children who are also interested in entering the restaurant business. There will be a viewing at William G. Miller and Son Funeral Home in Poughkeepsie on Monday from 4pm to 8pm. A service will be held at  St. Martin De Porres Church in Poughkeepsie at 10am on Tuesday, August 1.
