Police: Unlicensed Hudson Valley Man Overdosed, Crashed Car

Quick-acting police saved the life of a man who overdosed and crashed his car in the Hudson Valley.

On Saturday, Monticello police arrested 24-year-old Matthew J. Koskey of Napanoch for aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a felony, and misdemeanors for driving while ability impaired by the use of drugs and criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Around 11:30 a.m., Monticello police responded to a report of a car accident on Shaker Heights drive in the Village of Monticello. The driver of the vehicle was reported to be unresponsive.

Arriving officers found a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta in an embankment with Koskey unresponsive behind the steering wheel, police say.

Officers allegedly found heroin in the vehicle and determined that Koskey had overdosed.

Koskey was revived after police quickly gave him two doses of Narcan, a drug which is known to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.

Koskey is also accused of driving with a suspended license from a prior DWAI conviction.

Koskey was arraigned before Village of Monticello Justice Josephine Finn and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail on $10,000.

Koskey is currently on felony probation in Ulster County until 2022 for a grand larceny conviction.
