Police: Drunk Man Threatens to Cut Couple’s Throats
A drunk man is accused of threatening to cut a local couple’s throats and later stealing their car.
On Sunday, Saugerties police responded to a home on Washburn Farm Road for reports of a drunk man who was damaging the home.
Prior to police arrival, 54-year-old John A. Cordeiro of Woodstock is accused of taking one of the victim’s car and fleeing.
The unnamed victims told police that Cordeiro held up a knife and threatened to cut their throats during an argument.
The vehicle was located by Woodstock Police on Monday parked in the CVS parking lot. Cordeiro was found in the car sleeping, police say.
Cordeiro was charged with menacing, criminal mischief and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. He was sent to Ulster County Jail in lieu of $7,500 cash bail.
