Over 468,000 Gallons of Raw Sewage Spills into the Hudson River

At least 468,000 thousand gallons of raw sewage spilled into the Hudson River in the Hudson Valley, over the past few days.

On Tuesday, 118,200 gallons of untreated waste spilled into the Hudson River, according to the Poughkeepsie Water Pollution Control Plant. The discharge started around 2 p.m., at 200 Rinaldi Boulevard in Poughkeepsie and lasted for 70 minutes. Wet weather is to blame.

In another alert on Tuesday, officials also reported 6,000 gallons of untreated waste spilled into the Hudson River in Poughkeepsie due to heavy rain and thunderstorms.

Across the river on Tuesday, an unknown amount of raw sewage spilled into the Hudson River and Quassaick Creek. The discharged started at 2 Renwick Street in Newburgh, according to officials in Newburgh.

This past Saturday, 344,440 gallons of raw waste dripped into the Hudson River from Rinaldi Boulevard in Poughkeepsie. The discharge lasted for five hours. Saturday night’s heavy rain and thunderstorm is the reason for the discharge, officials say.

Also on Saturday, an undisclosed amount of untreated waste fell into Hudson River and Quassaick Creek.
